Launcher: Overhaul & Crucial Installation Rules

We have completely rewritten the game launcher from the ground up to provide a more stable, efficient, and modern patching experience.

Brand-New Launcher Features

  • Direct Error Logging: We have integrated a built-in logging system. If something goes wrong or an anomaly occurs during patching, you can now submit your log file directly to the development team for rapid troubleshooting.
  • Persistent Launcher Option: You can now toggle an option to prevent the launcher from closing automatically when the game client boots up.
  • Portal Integration: The “Website” and “Account Manager” buttons are now fully wired up and will take you directly to the correct web terminals.
  • Single-Instance Lock: The launcher is now strictly limited to one running instance at a time. Running multiple launchers simultaneously in the past was a primary cause of corrupted installation directories.

Linux Compatibility (Wine / Proton)

Great news for our Linux runners: the new launcher has been confirmed working seamlessly under Wine and Proton! You no longer need to spin up a Virtual Machine (VM) just to download client updates.

Please note: This is not a native Linux client. While the launcher updates perfectly, triggering the actual game execution through Wine/Proton can occasionally hit edge cases.

Pro-Tip: If the game struggles to boot directly, simply check the option to keep the launcher open on game launch, and then execute the game executable manually. It will run flawlessly under Proton/Wine.

CRITICAL: Unsupported Install Directories (Program Files)

We have pushed an immediate update to enforce proper installation paths. Program Files is strictly NOT a supported directory due to Windows read-only permissions clashing with how the launcher writes data. We have no plans to support it.

Launcher Block: The launcher will now actively error out and refuse to execute if it detects it is running from a Program Files directory.

Installer Block: The updated game installer will now actively refuse to install the client under any Program Files directories.

Where to install: Please use the default directory of C:\Games\ (e.g., C:\Games\Neocron) or an entirely separate drive letter.
